Proton Pass by Proton

by Matthew L Daniel, 2 years agoWriting a review for their extension is challenging because it's hard to know how much of the bad UX is from their extension and how much is just rot from their bad data model
That said, they could make the extension easier to use if they chose to. For example, if you want a new password field - not _the_ password field but _a_ new password field, your only recourse is to click on the huge plus, generate a password, then click edit on the item, create a new hidden text field and paste the generated password, being very careful not to allow anything to interfere with your clipboard in the interim. What a disaster. The gold standard (1Password) has a dedicated "password" field and underneath that field is a dedicated "generate password" action
The fact that Proton Pass has been stuck in this 2000s UX for as long as I've been using it demonstrates that they really don't care at all about their users, no matter how many "vote for features!!11" forums they offer

- Rated 5 out of 5by Leo, 3 days agoIt's perfection. What else can I say? it's reliable, simple to use and it offers a good amount of options in the ree version. The pro version does feels like a pro version since it offers extra features that are way useful for everyday tasks and reminders. Plus the Alias mails works like a charm
- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 20068929, 3 days agoProton Pass is so much better than LastPass, it's laughable. We're really enjoying the improved functionality, the far better aesthetics, and peace of mind. An elegant solution for a crappy problem.

- Rated 3 out of 5by Firefox user 18612415, 6 days agoI really think in 2026 there should be a keyboard shortcut to autofill a username and password (like bitwarden's command+shift+L). it's the most frustrating part. I also miss the folder structure from Bitwarden (but this might just be something I'm used to)

posted 5 days agoThank you for the review. We've taken note of your feedback regarding folders for future consideration. Keyboard shortcuts, on the other hand, are already available. Navigate to the extension's burger menu ☰ → Settings → General → scroll down to "Keyboard shortcuts". - Rated 5 out of 5by 4ti11a.tr, 6 days ago
- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 20062886, 6 days agoI thought password managers were out of my reach due to price, but when I researched, I found that even Proton's free option was rated quite high. I have been completely satisfied with it. I love that it keeps my passwords safe, generates strong new passwords, and that it's easy but secure to log into. I also appreciate the alias option, though I'm not sure if that is a feature if you don't also have Protonmail (which I do). I have no complaints and have been recommending it to family and friends.
