Web Article Voice Reader is a reading-assistance extension for Firefox. When you select the extension from the browser toolbar, it extracts the main article text from the active page and opens it in a clean, focused reader tab. The article can then be read aloud using the voices provided by Firefox and your operating system.

The extension is designed for text-focused pages such as news articles, blogs, tutorials, encyclopedias, knowledge bases, and product documentation.

Key features:

• Extracts article titles, paragraphs, section headings, lists, quotations, preformatted text, and selected metadata when available.
• Preserves the original paragraph boundaries instead of displaying every sentence as a separate paragraph.
• Lets you select any sentence as the starting point by clicking it or using the keyboard.
• Provides Start, Pause, Resume, and Stop controls with active-sentence highlighting and reading progress.
• Resumes from the actual paused position when supported by the system speech engine. If precise resume is unavailable, playback restarts from the beginning of the current sentence.
• Lets you select a system voice and adjust speech rate, volume, pitch, comma pauses, and sentence pauses.
• Automatically follows the active sentence during long articles. Manual scrolling temporarily disables automatic following for five seconds.
• Keeps playback controls, status information, and reading settings fixed at the top of the screen on Firefox for Android. The settings panel can be collapsed to leave more room for the article.

Version 1.3.2 fixes a pause/resume issue near the end of a sentence. If the active utterance finishes while paused, resuming advances to the next sentence or completes playback correctly. If the system speech engine loses the paused utterance, the extension restarts the current sentence instead of remaining silent.

Privacy:

• Article text, page addresses, voice settings, and analytics data are not sent to remote servers.
• The extension contains no advertising, tracking, telemetry, or remotely hosted code.
• Article data is stored only in the current Firefox session using browser.storage.session.
• Closing the reader tab removes its article data, and stopping Firefox clears all article sessions.
• browser.storage.local stores only voice, rate, volume, pitch, and pause preferences.

Compatibility and limitations:

• Firefox for desktop 140.0 or later.
• Firefox for Android 142.0 or later.
• Firefox and the operating system must provide SpeechSynthesis system voice support.
• Internal Firefox pages and other pages that prohibit extension-script injection cannot be extracted.
• Pages without a recognizable article structure may not produce readable content.
• Available voices, pronunciation, pause accuracy, and background playback behavior depend on the device, operating system, Firefox, and the installed speech engine.

To use the extension, open a normal webpage containing an article, select Web Article Voice Reader from the Firefox toolbar, choose a starting sentence in the new reader tab, and press Start.
