Daily Trace by leonides

Turns your browsing into a calm daily journal you never have to write. Open the popup and your tabs are grouped by what they were for, not which site they came from — so you can close forty of them and still find what you were in the middle of.

Screenshots
Your day, already written. You never typed any of it — the extension read your own browsing and the account wrote it up.Drop a screenshot in and it gets read, titled and filed. You don't have to name it or decide where it goes.Every picture you've dumped, searchable by what it said. Pictures are kept 30 days; what they said is kept for good.
About this extension
Daily Trace writes down what you were actually working on, so you don't have to.

You already leave a trail: forty open tabs, and a history you never read back. This extension reads that trail and turns it into a short, plain account of your day — one you can look at tomorrow, or in a month, and remember what you were in the middle of.

You write nothing. There's no timer to start, no project to pick, no tags to keep tidy.

CLOSE THE TAB, KEEP THE THREAD

The other half is the tabs themselves. Open the popup and it groups everything you have open by what it was FOR — "Bus from Guwahati", "Choosing a standing desk" — rather than by which website it came from, because one plan is usually booked across five sites and one site usually holds three unrelated errands. To do that it sends the open tabs' titles and hostnames to your own Daily Trace server, which asks the AI provider you configured to name the groups; if that isn't available it groups by site instead and nothing leaves your machine.

Hit "close & keep" and each tab's context is saved before it closes — so you can clear forty tabs without the feeling that you're throwing something away, and find them again by search.

HOW IT WORKS
  • Your visits are read from browser history and grouped into work sessions on your own machine, before anything leaves it.
  • Those sessions go to your Daily Trace account, where the summary is written.
  • You read the result in the Daily Trace web app: your day, your journal, the tabs you kept, your tasks, and search across all of it.
  • Capture runs when you press the button — or once a day on its own, if you turn that on.

WHAT YOU NEED

A free Daily Trace account at https://dailytrace.vinnyminhas.com — sign in from the popup with Google or an email and password, and the extension is ready.

You also bring your own AI provider, set once in the web app's Settings. Nothing is written until you do — a new account has no provider configured, so add a key before your first capture.

If you'd rather run the whole thing yourself, you can: point the extension at your own Daily Trace server's URL in Options and it will use that instead. That is also the only way to use a local model via Ollama, in which case nothing is sent to any AI company at all — the hosted server cannot reach a model running on your machine.

WHAT IT DOESN'T DO

No streaks. No scores. No notifications telling you that you were unproductive. It doesn't grade your day, it just keeps it.

PRIVACY

Your browsing data goes to one place — your Daily Trace server — and it is encrypted at rest there. It is never sold and never shared. There are no analytics and no trackers in this extension.

It's also not kept forever: daily summaries and kept tabs are deleted after 30 days. Full policy: https://dailytrace.vinnyminhas.com/privacy.html
