1. SUMMARY

BigPDF has 15 PDF tools. 14 of them process your files entirely inside your browser — your PDF is never uploaded anywhere. The 15th, the AI Assistant, is the one deliberate exception and is opt-in, described in section 4.

1. YOUR PDF FILES — NOT COLLECTED

For the 14 offline tools, BigPDF does not upload, transmit, or store the content of your PDF files on any server. Files are read into browser memory (and, for merge, split, and extract pages, into a local WebAssembly module bundled with the add-on), processed, and handed back to you as a download. Nothing about the file — text, images, page count, filenames — leaves your device.

1. DATA STORED LOCALLY

Using browser storage, on your device only: an account email if you choose to enter one for licence lookups; your weekly free-quota counter; your cached licence status; the AI Assistant endpoint, model and API key if you configure them; and your theme and language preferences. Removing the add-on removes all of it.

1. AI ASSISTANT — THE ONLY TOOL THAT LEAVES YOUR BROWSER

This tool sends text extracted from your PDF (not the file itself) plus your question to an Ollama-compatible endpoint that you configure. You supply your own API key. Nothing is sent until you enter a key, type a question and press send. We never receive that traffic; it goes directly from your browser to the endpoint you chose.

1. LICENCE AND QUOTA

To unlock paid plans, BigPDF can contact https://api.gethogrider.com with your account email to check plan status and remaining quota. No PDF content is ever included. On Firefox this only happens if you type an email on the Account screen — the add-on cannot read your browser profile email, because the 'identity' permission is deliberately not requested in the Firefox build. If the network is unavailable, the last cached status is kept rather than locking you out. Paid plans are purchased through Creem; BigPDF never sees your card number.

1. ANALYTICS — NONE

BigPDF does not collect analytics or telemetry and does not record your session. Earlier versions sent anonymised usage events to PostHog and could screen-record the add-on's own tool pages; both were removed entirely on 15 August 2026. The shipped package contains no PostHog SDK and no rrweb.

1. WHAT BIGPDF DOES NOT DO

It does not sell your data. It runs no content scripts and holds no <all_urls> host permission, so it cannot read or modify any web page — it only reads files you explicitly choose through a file dialog. It does not track your browsing history and requires no account for the free tier.

1. CHILDREN

BigPDF is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
