About this extension
Aar318's YouTube Notifier

Track public YouTube channels for live streams without signing in or connecting a YouTube account. YouTube Notifier adds a draggable Streamers control and responsive dashboard with live status, favorites, viewer counts, previews, notifications, backups, and private local insights.

Key Features:

Authentication-Free YouTube Tracking: Tracks public YouTube channel URLs, @handles, legacy custom/user URLs, and channel IDs without OAuth or a connected account.

Favorite-First Background Checks: Checks favorite channels before the remaining list with bounded concurrency. The background process owns channel state, badge counts, and notification history so multiple open tabs cannot create duplicate alerts.

Current-Page Channel Tools: Adds or removes the current YouTube channel through the extension-icon menu. An optional + This Page shortcut appears beside an untracked channel name on supported desktop and mobile YouTube layouts.

Followed-Channel Import: Opens YouTube's followed-channels page and scans its visible public channel links when the user explicitly selects Scan Followed Channels.

Responsive Streamers Dashboard: Groups Favorites Online, Online, Favorites Offline, and Offline channels with alphabetical sorting, live viewer counts, direct links, search, quick clear, and Full, Mini, or Compact layouts.

Mobile-Friendly Drawer: Uses larger touch targets, safe-area spacing, stable scroll retention, one large Full card, two-column Mini cards at normal phone widths, and dense Compact rows.

Optional Audio and Video Previews: Supported live cards can start a YouTube audio preview with pause/resume, stop, and volume controls or open an embedded stream preview. Both features default off and require user action. If a creator blocks embedding, the extension provides a direct link to the live page.

Smart Desktop Alerts: Displays click-to-open notifications when a tracked channel is newly detected live. Notification state is centrally deduplicated, and favorite channels can use a selectable local alert sound.

Snooze and Quiet Hours: Temporarily pause alerts for preset or custom durations, schedule recurring local-time quiet hours, skip the current quiet period, or optionally allow favorites to bypass only the schedule.

Backup and Recovery: Imports and exports configuration, creates manual backups, downloads the latest backup, maintains difference-aware automatic backups with a configurable limit, restores saved state, and preserves backups during a factory reset.

Excluded Domains and Paths: Supports domain, path, and * wildcard patterns that hide the optional floating overlay on selected pages. The Exclusions tab previews whether a pattern matches the current page.

Appearance and Placement: Includes dark/light mode, holiday accents, separate custom colors for the panel, cards, highlights, text, and button, reset/randomize controls, opacity settings, offline hiding, preview visibility, and draggable positioning beside YouTube's logo by default.

Health and Debug Tools: Shows the latest check, interval, next-check countdown, favorite-first priority, tracked/live/favorite totals, combined viewers, discoveries, and check issues. Optional debug mode exposes a capped, timestamped session log with check, state, notification, suppression, and error events.

Private Insights: A session-revealed Stats for Nerds view summarizes locally stored checks, discoveries, notifications, suppressions, channel and panel opens, favorite changes, timing records, peaks, streaks, and 14-day activity. Insights can be exported or reset separately.

Privacy Focused: Tracked channels, settings, backups, debug state, and Insights remain in local browser storage. The extension contains no advertising, third-party analytics, behavioral tracking, or account authentication.
